A strictly preserved historic district where nothing jarring is allowed to interrupt the visual poetry of the place. The entire island is a living testament to New England craftsmanship and preservation - maintained with a devotion that most historic places can only dream of.

I want to walk those streets slowly. I want to stand in front of those grey shingled facades and appreciate every detail. I want to see what three centuries of deliberate preservation actually looks like in person.

That alone would justify the trip. 😊

The Fantasy Meal. 🦞

Here is what I have already planned in my head - which is my way of manifesting something into existence. 😄

Fresh catch of the day. Whatever the boats brought in that morning - Nantucket bay scallops, lobster, shrimp, crab, fresh fish straight from the Atlantic. Sitting on the water, overlooking the boats and the ocean, the smell of salt air and the sound of rigging in the wind.

And a glass of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. My favorite - a New Zealand wine from a country where I once swam with wild dusky dolphins in Kaikoura. There is something deeply right about drinking New Zealand wine on a New England island with the Atlantic stretching to the horizon.

Stimulating conversation. Genuine laughter. The unhurried pleasure of a perfect meal with perfect company.

I can picture it so clearly it almost feels like a memory already. 💙

The Bicycle Plan. 🚲

I had a wonderful idea about renting bicycles and riding through the cobblestone streets to explore the town.

Then I remembered the cobblestones. 😂

We will explore on foot - slowly, appreciating every architectural detail along the way - and by boat, because an island this beautiful deserves to be seen from the water too. The bicycle idea was charming while it lasted.

The Accent. 😄

I have always loved a Boston accent. There is something warm and specific and completely unpretentious about it - the dropped R's, the particular music of New England speech.

Nantucket has its own island variation - a little softer than mainland Boston, shaped by generations of fishermen and sailors and old money families who have summered here since before anyone can remember. I am told it is deeply charming.

I intend to find out firsthand. 🐟
