Summer is when Lake Tahoe fully reveals itself and honestly — it might be my favorite season there.
Wave runners on the lake. This is on my list and I cannot wait. Zipping across the clearest, most brilliant blue water you've ever seen with the Sierra Nevada as your backdrop is apparently one of the most exhilarating things you can do in California. Rentals are available at multiple marinas on both shores — and there's even a guided wave runner tour to Emerald Bay, which I'd do in a heartbeat. The water, the mountains, the sheer scale of it — extraordinary.
Boating. Whether it's a private boat, a sunset cruise or a chartered yacht on that impossibly blue water — Lake Tahoe was made for time on the water. A bottle of something cold, warm sun, the sound of the lake — perfect.
Hiking. The trails around Lake Tahoe are genuinely extraordinary — through old growth forest, along the shoreline, up to panoramic views of the lake that make you catch your breath. I love hiking and Lake Tahoe has some of the most beautiful trails I've encountered anywhere.
Walks along the lake. Sometimes the best thing is simply walking along the shore at a relaxed pace, watching the light change on the water, talking about nothing in particular. I never get tired of this.
Kayaking and paddleboarding. The crystal clear water makes these particularly magical — you can look straight down into the lake from your board and see the bottom. That never gets old.
Winter at Lake Tahoe ⛷️
I'll be completely honest — I haven't yet skied Lake Tahoe's famous mountains. Heavenly, Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley) and Northstar have been on my bucket list for years and I'm manifesting hard. 😄
What I do know: the skiing is world class, the views of the lake from the slopes are reportedly among the most spectacular of any ski resort on earth, and the après ski scene is exactly what you'd expect from a destination that attracts serious skiers and serious spenders.

A few hands of blackjack, a great dinner, the particular energy of a casino evening — wonderful. And then stepping back outside into mountain air and pine trees is a surprisingly delightful contrast.
