An hour from Glacier National Park sits Whitefish - one of Montana's most charming small towns and a destination entirely worth visiting in its own right.

Walkable, quaint and genuinely characterful. I stayed at the Firebrand Hotel in downtown Whitefish - a beautiful boutique property that captures the Montana spirit perfectly without trying too hard.

Dinner at Whitefish Lake Restaurant deserves its own mention. Situated right on a golf course ⛳, with enormous log wooden beams throughout and a rustic warmth that feels completely authentic to the landscape outside. The kind of meal you remember not just for the food but for the feeling of the place. 🌲

A Few Things Montana Will Surprise You With. 😄

Gambling is legal in Montana - casinos appear throughout the state with a cheerful matter-of-factness that takes a moment to adjust to if you're not expecting it. 🎰

Recreational cannabis is also legal - dispensaries are present and the culture around it is relaxed and completely normalized. For those who are 420 friendly - and I count myself among that particular demographic 😉🔥 - Montana is a very welcoming state.

Sitting by a river in Montana, surrounded by four wild horses - genuinely wild, genuinely free - close enough to touch. One of them let me.

This was somewhere in between - my camera caught it but the feeling of that moment, the extraordinary privilege of that kind of proximity to something completely untamed, lives somewhere that images can't reach.

Montana is genuinely, unapologetically cold. This is not a destination for the thermally faint-hearted.
